ANIMA MACHINA emerges from the fusion of consciousness, machine, and nature. Brainwaves generated while dancing Butoh unfold into luminous, sonic, and visual landscapes that transform space in real time, evoking hidden universes and hybrid states of being. Inspired by Donna Haraway’s Cyborg Manifesto, the piece proposes a transhuman ritual through perception—a poetic and immersive journey where the body becomes both creation and creator.
With Lucía Callén (Butoh dance) and Alec Ilyine (soundscape), visuals by Javier Marco, and artistic/technical assistance by Gonzalo Catalinas.
Butoh, named by master Hijikata as “the revolt of the body,” is an avant-garde dance born in Japan. Through immersion in the body’s inner senses, it becomes a metamorphosis of perception — the flesh turning transparent, becoming the world itself, like a living mirror.
In Synaptic Butoh, Lucía Callén explores body and mind in a way that is at once scientific and poetic, entering this dreamlike state. Developed by Synaptic Body as part of Inner-Actions, a dance and neuroscience project in collaboration with Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche, MolinoLab, and supported by the Contemporary Creation Grants of the Madrid City Council (2024–25).
This performance is part of an ongoing process towards the final piece.
